DETOUR

DETOUR asks for patience in a way many route games do not: the real pleasure is in nudging a situation sideways and seeing how the map opens up. By our assessment, it is a clever puzzle title for players who enjoy planning, rerouting, and small tactical surprises more than flashy action. Its strength is that the whole game is built around detours as a mechanic, so each move has to be thought through instead of rushed. The downside is a familiar one for this kind of puzzle work: if someone wants instant payoff, the slower, brainier pacing can feel spare. In practice, that gives DETOUR a neat, deliberate texture, with the satisfaction coming from solving space rather than overpowering it. It sits comfortably among route-building and puzzle strategy games, where the fun is in making an indirect path work. DETOUR is at its best when the player enjoys careful choices and does not mind stopping to think between them.
