Counter-Strike: Condition Zero

Counter-Strike: Condition Zero is the awkward middle child of the Counter-Strike line, remembered less for changing the formula than for trying to give the series a fuller single-player shape. By our assessment, it is a tactical first-person shooter for people who want the Counter-Strike feel in a more scripted package. The good part is familiar handling: tight gunplay, clear objectives and the same economy-minded shootouts the series is known for. The drawback is that it never quite displaces the stronger memory of the multiplayer original, and its campaign side has always felt more like an add-on than the centre of gravity. In practice it is about careful angles, quick deaths and learning maps, but with more structure around bots and missions than the classic competitive mode. It sits beside the more famous Counter-Strike entries rather than above them. That leaves it as a serviceable side trip, not the place most players start.
