Cossacks II: Battle for Europe

Cossacks II: Battle for Europe leans hard on large-scale real-time strategy, with formations, firearms, and the management of a battlefield that cares as much about morale and numbers as about clever timing. By our assessment, its best quality is the sense of commanding a lot of moving parts at once, which gives battles a proper military shape instead of a skirmish-game feel. The price is that it asks for patience and a willingness to learn unit interactions, because its systems are not as forgiving as more streamlined strategy games. In play it feels busy and methodical, with the map and the front line demanding attention rather than quick hero moments. Compared with simpler RTS games, it sits on the harder, more old-school side of the genre. Cossacks II: Battle for Europe will appeal to players who want armies, formation play, and a historical campaign mood, while it is less friendly to anyone looking for a fast, casual strategy session.
