Chop Goblins

Chop Goblins looks like a joke on the surface, but in use it is a small, aggressive retro-style shooter built around fast movement, absurd enemies, and short bursts of violence. By our assessment, what it does well is keep the pace high and the level ideas stripped down, so it gets to the point almost immediately. The trade-off is that there is not much room for broad systems or long-term depth, which is fine if the goal is a sharp one-note game and less fine if someone wants a long campaign. In practice that means quick restarts, simple weapon use, and the kind of direct action that does not waste time explaining itself. It sits closer to compact indie shooters and throwback arcade design than to big modern FPS campaigns. Chop Goblins is exactly the sort of game that is memorable for its speed and strangeness, not for breadth.
