Carto is a puzzle adventure built around moving pieces of the map itself, which makes exploration the main trick rather than combat or speed. By our assessment, that shifting world is its best idea: the player is constantly rearranging spaces, and the game turns geography into the puzzle. The downside is that the appeal depends on liking a calm, brainy rhythm, because there is very little here that rushes or overwhelms. In practice it feels playful and readable, with a hand-made look that suits the spatial tricks and keeps the route through each area clear. It stands out from more conventional top-down adventures by making the world fold under the player’s feet, and that gives it a cleaner identity than many indie puzzle games manage. The ceiling is simply that it stays gentle, never harsh or dense, and that is part of its charm.
