Card Hunter turns deckbuilding into a tabletop-skirmish puzzle, and that mix is still its charm. By our assessment, it is for players who like planning turns as much as drawing cards, with tactical positioning doing real work instead of sitting in the background. Its strength is the way class abilities, loot, and comic paper-cutout style all point in the same direction. The downside is the slower, fiddlier rhythm that comes with managing a party and a lot of little rules. In practice it feels close to a board game session that has been translated into a browser RPG, with humor doing some of the heavy lifting. Compared with cleaner digital card games, it asks for more patience and more reading, but it also gives more room for clever play. Card Hunter rewards attention to the board, because a bad square can matter as much as a bad draw.
