Blockstorm

Blockstorm stands out by letting players build and destroy the map in a voxel shooter that looks like a homemade arena and plays like one too. By our assessment, the appeal is the freedom to shape cover, sightlines, and little fortresses on the fly, which gives each match a rough, toy-box feel. The trade-off is that the blocky style also keeps the presentation and the gunfeel from reaching the polish of bigger shooters. In practice it is about quick movement, simple shooting, and constantly changing spaces rather than elaborate systems. It sits somewhere between a sandbox and an arena shooter, so it is less rigid than a standard deathmatch game and less elaborate than a full building sandbox. Blockstorm is for people who enjoy improvised maps and short sessions; anyone wanting deep progression or a glossy competitive scene will find the ceiling fast.
