Black The Fall

Black The Fall works by mood and movement more than by depth, so it is aimed at players who want a short, atmospheric platformer with puzzles and a heavy visual style. By our assessment, its best quality is the look and tone: stark industrial spaces, silent pressure, and a sense of being pushed through a hostile machine. The downside is that the gameplay is not especially rich, and the platforming and puzzle ideas can feel thin once the visual idea has done its job. In practice it is the kind of game that is carried by its presentation, then asks you to keep moving through narrow spaces and simple obstacles. It sits closer to cinematic puzzle-platformers than to complex action games, and that comparison is fair because the player’s task is usually straightforward.
