Black & White stands out because it lets the player act as a god, using a giant creature, miracles, and direct influence over a village rather than a normal city-building menu. By our assessment, that god-game idea is still memorable because it mixes management, moral pressure, and a very physical sense of meddling in the world. The downside is that the creature-handling and faith systems can be awkward, and the game’s old interface shows its age quickly. In practice it is a game about shaping a people and watching your own giant follower learn from what you do, which makes every choice feel a bit theatrical. Compared with standard strategy games, it is less tidy and more eccentric, and that oddness is part of its identity.
