BitLife trades direct control for choices: this text-based life simulator moves through a character’s life by presenting decisions about relationships, school, work, health, and other parts of everyday life. Rather than steering an avatar through a world, players read short prompts and select what happens next. By our assessment, that format makes it easy to try different kinds of lives, and the changing events give repeat runs a reason to differ. It is also more about curiosity and experimenting with choices than mastering a precise control scheme. The downside is that much of the play happens in menus, and a life can feel like a sequence of brief prompts rather than a continuous story. Some outcomes depend on chance as well as the choices made. Each new life unfolds through another set of decisions and consequences.
