Beyond fantasy

Beyond fantasy is a small, idea-first game title that sounds like it wants to sit between genre parody and gentle whimsy, but the name alone does most of the talking. By our assessment, there is not enough solid public substance here to claim a specific loop, so the safe read is that it belongs among lightweight indie games rather than anything sprawling or systems-heavy. Its strength is the promise of a clear mood and an easy-to-grasp premise; its weakness is that the concept is so thin from the outside that the actual play has to do all the work. In practice, a game like this usually lives or dies on how quickly it shows its hands, because players will not come for spectacle or depth on the basis of the title alone. Compared with bigger fantasy games, it seems more likely to aim for charm, brevity, or a simple twist than for large-scale worldbuilding. Beyond fantasy is for people who enjoy compact oddball games and do not mind going in with very little certainty about the shape of the experience.
