Bean Battles

Bean Battles suggests a small, comic fight, and that is exactly where a game with this name would make sense: quick rounds, simple rules, and a bit of silliness instead of grand drama. By our assessment, that kind of setup can be fun because it lowers the barrier to entry and lets the moment-to-moment play do the work. The limit is just as clear, since a light concept can run out of steam if there is not enough depth in the combat, maps, or progression. In practice this sort of game usually lives on fast feedback and easy reads, so it is the sort of thing people dip into for a short session rather than settle into for a long campaign. Against heavier multiplayer games it would stand on charm and pace, and the name itself already tells you not to expect seriousness.
