Battle Academy

Battle Academy focuses on turn-based combat at the small-unit level, so it speaks most clearly to players who want tactics without the sprawl of a grand strategy game. By our assessment, its best trait is readability: the battlefield, unit roles, and turn structure are usually easier to grasp than in many heavier wargames, which makes it a good on-ramp to the genre. The cost of that clarity is a smaller sense of scale and less room for the sprawling planning that big hex-and-counter games offer. In practice it feels deliberate, measured, and very much about position, line of sight, and making each move count. Compared with dense war sims, Battle Academy sits in the friendlier end of the tactics range, with less ceremony and more direct decision-making. That makes it a solid pick for people who want to learn or enjoy compact military tactics, while veterans looking for deep operational complexity may find it too light. It does its job cleanly, and that is enough to make it stand out.
