Barony asks for attention in the old dungeon-crawler way: manage hunger, gear, traps, monsters, and the fact that a bad room can end a run fast. By our assessment, it is strongest when it leans into co-op dungeon chaos, class variety, and the awkward charm of a game that wants you to know the layout and still punish a mistake. The downside is that it can feel unforgiving and a little clumsy if someone expects modern comfort or a smooth onboarding. In practice it is a run-based crawler where caution matters, inventories get busy, and knowing when to retreat is part of the rhythm. Compared with cleaner roguelikes, it is rougher and more old-school, but that is also where its personality lives. Barony rewards people who like learning systems the hard way and does not hide its sharp edges.
