Banners of Ruin is for players who like deckbuilding, turn-based tactics, and roguelike runs where a party’s gear and cards matter as much as positioning. By our assessment, its best feature is the way it mixes a card-game core with a grim fantasy campaign, so each run feels like building a machine from scraps. The downside is the familiar one for the genre: repeated runs can start to blur together if the card pool or tactical loops do not hook you early. In play, it asks for patience with planning, board state, and the occasional brutal reset when a run collapses. It sits somewhere between Slay the Spire-style deckbuilders and more traditional tactical RPGs, leaning harder on cards than on story. Banners of Ruin is the sort of game that rewards learning its synergies and punishes careless pileups, and that makes its appeal fairly specific. If the loop of draft, fight, and rebuild is already the point, it has real pull.
