Bad North

Bad North asks for calm decisions under pressure, which is why it stands out among small strategy games. By our assessment, the appeal is the mix of real-time movement and clear tactical positioning on tiny island maps, where a wrong placement can cost a whole run. It is a roguelite strategy game, so it suits players who like brief, tense sessions and are happy to rebuild after failure. The downside is that its stark presentation and compact scope can feel austere once the trick is understood. In practice it is more about reading a fight quickly than about managing a large empire, and that keeps it focused. Compared with sprawling strategy titles, Bad North is a lean, sharp version of the idea, not a long-form one.
