Backbone: Prologue

Backbone: Prologue is a small narrative game that works more like an introduction than a full meal, and that is exactly how it should be read. By our assessment, its main value is mood: it sets up a noirish animal-noir world and gives a short slice of detective-style storytelling with strong visual presentation. The obvious limit is size, because a prologue is meant to open the door rather than stay long inside it. In practice it feels like a compact scene that leans on dialogue, atmosphere, and curiosity about what comes next. Compared with a full adventure, it offers less room to breathe, but it also gets to the point quickly. Backbone: Prologue is useful for people who want a quick look at the setting before committing to more, and it is not trying to be a long mystery on its own.
