Avowed

Avowed asks for patience with its fantasy systems, because it is built as a first-person role-playing game with combat, dialogue, and a lot of gear and ability management. By our assessment, that mix is the point: it aims at players who like exploring a world, reading quests, and shaping a character through class-style choices rather than pure action. The upside is the familiar Obsidian style of talk, factions, and build tinkering; the downside is that this kind of game can feel busy before it feels elegant. In play, the interest usually comes from moving between conversation and combat, then checking whether a new weapon or spell changes the way the next fight unfolds. Compared with broader action adventures, Avowed sits closer to classic RPG territory, where systems matter as much as spectacle. It is for people who enjoy that kind of structure, not for anyone who wants a lean, straight-ahead fantasy romp.
