AudioSurf

AudioSurf turns your own music into a track to ride along, and that is still the whole attraction: pick a song and steer a little craft through the shapes the audio makes. By our assessment, its neatest trick is matching rhythm, melody, and motion so the score becomes part of the playfield instead of background noise. The limit is obvious once the novelty settles in, because the game depends heavily on the track you bring to it and on whether you enjoy chasing patterns rather than fighting or exploring. In use it feels brisk and tidy, with a strong one-song-at-a-time rhythm that makes short sessions work better than long marathons. It sits in the smaller, music-driven corner of games rather than beside standard racers or rhythm titles with fixed levels. AudioSurf is at its best when the song and the course click together, and less interesting when they do not.
