Ark Nova

Ark Nova’s distinctive idea is that running a zoo and supporting conservation are tied together rather than treated as separate themes. Players build habitats, bring in animals, and use cards for animals, projects, sponsors, and other actions. The action-card system gives each turn a useful puzzle: an action grows stronger depending on where its card sits, so timing and order matter. By our assessment, this makes the game rewarding for people who enjoy planning several turns ahead and adjusting when new cards change their options. The trade-off is a substantial rules load and a long, busy game; card choices can also shape what plans are practical. It has more in common with a deep strategy board game than a light zoo-building activity. The action cards keep shifting the value of the next move.
