Alter Ego

Alter Ego is a life-simulation game about making a person across an entire lifespan, so the player spends more time choosing paths than winning fights. By our assessment, that is the point: it asks for reflection, patience, and a willingness to watch small decisions accumulate into a whole life story. Its strength is the premise itself, because the branching choices give it a very different texture from action-heavy games or simple quiz-style software. The limit is that the system can feel text-heavy and mechanically modest by modern standards, with most of its pull coming from idea and structure rather than spectacle. In practice it plays like a sequence of personal trade-offs, where one answer opens one track and closes another. Compared with more elaborate life sims, it is spare and old-fashioned in presentation, but the concept still has a plain, readable force. By our assessment, that makes it more interesting as an interactive idea than as a flashy game.
