Almost Home Now

Almost Home Now is the kind of game that asks for patience before it asks for skill. Its name fits the experience: the point is the last stretch, the sense of being close to safety while still having to push through whatever the game puts in the way. By our assessment, that makes it more about atmosphere and emotional pressure than about flashy systems. The good part is the focus; a small, concentrated game can stay with people because it does one feeling cleanly. The limit is that the idea is narrow, so anyone looking for deep mechanical variety may find the experience brief or plain. It sits with short indie games that rely on a strong tone and a simple premise, and it works best when that premise is enough on its own.
