Alan's Automaton Workshop

Alan's Automaton Workshop sounds like a tinkering game, and that usually means planning machines, arranging parts, and enjoying the logic of systems rather than action. By our assessment, its main appeal is likely the pleasure of building little automata and seeing them do something useful or clever once the setup clicks. The trade-off is that this kind of game asks for patience and a willingness to debug your own ideas, which can be fun or tiring depending on the player. In practice, workshop games feel best when the rules are clear enough to experiment with but loose enough to allow odd solutions. Compared with broader crafting games, Alan's Automaton Workshop would probably be narrower and more focused on mechanisms, which is a strength if that is the whole reason to show up. It should interest people who like systems they can shape by hand, and leave action-first players cold.
