A Mortician's Tale asks a player to do something most games avoid: sit with funerals, embalming, and the routine work around death. By our assessment, that narrow focus is its point, and it gives the subject a plain, careful treatment instead of drama for its own sake. The downside is obvious too: the mechanics are light, and once the idea lands, there is not much of a traditional game loop to lean on. In practice it feels more like a short interactive story with tasks than like a system to master. Compared with bigger narrative games, it is tiny, but it is honest about being tiny. The name says what it does, and the game keeps that promise almost bluntly.
