8BitBoy is a retro-style platformer for people who like tight jumps, simple controls, and the old habit of learning levels by repetition. By our assessment, its best quality is that familiar 8-bit look and the straightforward run-and-jump structure that makes it easy to understand at a glance. The trade-off is that this kind of game can be unforgiving, and a lot of the pleasure comes from repeating sections until the timing sticks. In practice it wants patience and a taste for pattern learning more than flashy systems. It sits with the many indie games that borrow the NES era on purpose, and it is less about novelty than about giving that form another clean run. That makes 8BitBoy a decent fit for players who enjoy classic platforming and do not mind retrying the same stretch a few times.
