3DMark is the benchmark tool people reach for when they want to stress a graphics card, compare hardware, or get a clean synthetic score instead of a real game. By our assessment, its strength is that it packages a lot of standard GPU tests into one familiar name, so the results are easy to talk about in the hardware world. The downside is that synthetic benchmarks are not the same thing as real play, and a pretty score can hide how a system behaves in messy everyday use. In practice it is less about fun than about running scenes, waiting for the result, and reading the numbers afterward. It sits above casual frame-rate checking and below actual gaming as a measure of performance, which is exactly why people use it.
