Tokenization

Tokenization is the broader crypto-finance idea of turning rights or assets into on-chain tokens, which is why the name covers a mechanism rather than a single coin. By our assessment, that makes it a useful label for projects that want faster transfer, fractional ownership, or easier settlement, but it also makes the category slippery, because the value depends on what is being tokenized and how law and custody are handled. In practice, tokenization can sound neat and still hide a lot of paperwork, platform risk, and dependence on outside institutions. It sits between finance, infrastructure, and jargon, so the real test is whether the token does something concrete beyond renaming an asset. Tokenization is less a product people “use” than a scheme other systems build on.
