Fidelity Digital Dollar sounds like an institutional token, and that is exactly the point of the name. By our assessment, it is the sort of cryptocurrency label that tries to borrow the trust and orderliness of a large finance brand while staying in digital form. The benefit is obvious: it is easy to read as a dollar-linked concept, not as a loose speculative coin. The cost is that the name tells you almost nothing about mechanics, custody, or whether this is meant for payments, settlement, or some narrower internal use. In practice a thing like this tends to feel more like infrastructure than a consumer crypto product, which narrows the audience from the start. Compared with open-market coins, it sits at the more regulated, more controlled end of the spectrum. The real question is always what sits behind the label, because the label itself does very little work.
