Drift Protocol sits in the DeFi corner of crypto, where users usually come for derivatives, trading tools, and on-chain finance rather than simple payments. By our assessment, that makes its appeal fairly specific: people who already understand wallets, liquidity, and smart-contract risk are the ones most likely to make sense of it. The upside of that kind of system is clear structure and more control than a plain exchange account can give. The downside is just as clear, because DeFi adds complexity, gas costs, and the ordinary risk of code behaving badly or markets moving fast. In practice, these platforms feel powerful but fussy, with a lot of attention paid to interface details and to what chain the activity lives on. Compared with a centralized exchange, Drift Protocol is less straightforward; compared with a basic crypto wallet, it asks for much more context. The limit is that it rewards experienced users far more than casual ones.
