Decentralized USD borrows the strongest name a crypto project can ask for, and that is also its main problem. By our assessment, it belongs to the family of dollar-linked tokens and promises a familiar unit of account in a decentralized wrapper, which is attractive to anyone trying to move value without leaving the crypto world. The trade-off is plain: a dollar-style token only feels simple as long as the backing, peg, and governance stay believable. In practice, that kind of asset lives or dies on confidence, audits, reserves, and how calmly it behaves when the market gets rough. Compared with Bitcoin or more experimental coins, it is less about upside and more about keeping a stable story together.
