CoinDesk DeFi Select Index is a crypto index aimed at people who want a rules-based read on the DeFi side of the market rather than a single token. By our assessment, its main strength is that it packages a messy corner of crypto into one tracked basket, which is easier to watch than a string of separate coins. The trade-off is obvious: it is only as good as the underlying DeFi names and the index rules, so it can be abstract and a bit detached from the day-to-day reality of any one project. In practice, this is a reference point, not a place for ordinary use, and it sits closer to market tracking than to a currency you spend.
