Chainlink is best known as the oracle project in crypto, the one people mention when they need outside data to reach smart contracts. By our assessment, that makes it one of the more important infrastructure names in the field, even if it is not the kind of token most people hold for its own sake. Its real strength is the practical job it solved early: connecting blockchains to off-chain information. The downside is that infrastructure tends to be less intuitive than a payment coin, so the appeal is strongest when you actually care about what smart contracts can do with external data. In use, it feels more like a backbone than a flashy consumer asset. It sits above many smaller projects because the oracle role is so central, and that is what gives it weight in the category.
