Permanent TSB is a retail bank for everyday current accounts, mortgages, savings and branch-based banking in Ireland. By our assessment, it is most convincing as a plain domestic bank: the app, cards and branch network all point to ordinary personal finance rather than fancy products or aggressive investment add-ons. Its strength is that it stays recognisably a local bank, which matters if you want wages, bills and mortgage payments handled in one place. The trade-off is that this sort of bank is rarely exciting, and its pace and product range are shaped more by caution than by flair. In practice that means familiar forms, standard fees, and less room for anything clever. Compared with online-only banks it looks sturdier and slower, and compared with the huge international names it feels narrower. Permanent TSB is for people who want a normal Irish banking relationship and do not need a lot of extras; it is less attractive if you want a wide investing platform or a highly polished digital-first experience.
