xSearch for Safari is the sort of extension people install when Safari’s built-in search controls are not quite enough for how they browse. By our assessment, its main value is that it adds extra search and navigation behaviour on top of Apple’s browser instead of asking users to change browsers. The catch is that Safari extensions live inside the browser’s own rules, so the app can only go as far as the platform allows. In practice this kind of tool feels small but persistent: once it is set up, it sits in the background and changes how search feels page to page. xSearch for Safari belongs in the crowded middle of browser helpers, where convenience features have to earn their place with every click. It suits people who search a lot inside Safari; anyone who wants a full browser overhaul will need something else.
