StepBud - AUv3 MIDI Sequencer is for people who want a sequencer inside an AUv3 workflow, not a general-purpose studio on its own. Its obvious strength is step-based control: patterns, timing, and note placement are the whole point. By our assessment, that makes it practical for building repeating MIDI parts, but the trade-off is the usual one for sequencers of this sort: it asks for attention and a bit of setup before anything useful appears. In day-to-day use, this kind of app rewards users who already know what a pattern should do and are happy to edit it bar by bar. Compared with a full DAW it is narrower, and compared with a simple looper it is more exacting. The number 3 in the name is just part of the title as recorded by the catalogue.
