Star Guide: Night Sky Map asks for a little patience and rewards it with a clear sky chart, constellation labels, and the usual tools for finding planets and bright stars. By our assessment, it is useful in the way good astronomy apps are useful: you point the phone at the sky and get an immediate map that makes sense of what is overhead. The cost is that this kind of app is only as good as the device sensors and the darkness around you, so it is less convincing in bright city glare. In practice, it is a hands-on reference rather than something to passively read. It belongs with other sky-map apps and planetarium tools, and it does its job without much fuss.
