Sight Words | Flash Cards focuses on the first words children are expected to recognize by sight, so it is aimed squarely at early readers and the adults helping them. Its strength is repetition without much fuss: flash cards are a blunt tool, but a good one for memorizing common words. By our assessment, that simplicity is also the limit, because it helps with recognition more than with actual reading fluency or understanding. In practice, these apps work best in short, frequent bursts, the kind a child can handle without much ceremony. Compared with broader reading apps, it is narrower but more direct, and that can be a virtue when the goal is basic word recognition. The screen does a single job and does not pretend to be a full literacy course.
