Planet Fitness

Planet Fitness is the gym app for members who want club access, class schedules, and a way to keep the basics of a fitness routine in one phone screen. By our assessment, it is most useful as a companion to the chain itself: finding locations, checking hours, and handling the simple club-side tasks that go with membership. Its ceiling is also the chain’s ceiling, because the app is not trying to replace coaching or serious training tools, and it will matter most only if someone already uses Planet Fitness clubs. In practice it is utilitarian rather than exciting, with the same no-frills feel as the brand’s gyms. Compared with general fitness apps, it is narrower and more membership-bound.
