Plain Text Editor

Plain Text Editor does one well-known job: it gives people a clean place to write text without the weight of formatting, templates, or office-app clutter. By our assessment, that restraint is its best feature, because plain text is fast to open, easy to move around, and rarely gets in the way of copy-paste work. The trade-off is equally plain: no rich layout, no fancy styling, and no help if the user wants a document that looks finished on screen. In practice the appeal is the feel of getting straight to the words, with fewer buttons and fewer chances to break the file. It sits squarely against heavier word processors and note apps that try to do too much. For notes, code, lists, and other text-first tasks it is hard to beat; for anything that needs polish, it stops being the right tool.
