Picture in Picture for Safari

Picture in Picture for Safari solves one very specific annoyance: keeping a video visible while you do something else in the browser. By our assessment, that narrow focus is the point, and it is also why the app makes sense for people who watch clips, streams, or long talks in Safari. The upside is obvious once it works: the player floats while you browse, read, or answer messages. The limit is equally obvious, because this is a browser utility, not a full media app, and it depends on the web page and the video source behaving properly. In practice these tools are small but fussy, and they feel like a neat layer over Safari rather than a big product of their own. Compared with a desktop browser feature, it is a mobile convenience piece with a much smaller ceiling.
