Working out whether a plug-in hybrid saves money is more involved than comparing fuel economy: charging habits and electricity costs change the result. PHEV Savings is aimed at making that ownership calculation its main job, rather than managing the car or its charging. By our assessment, that focus is useful when comparing a PHEV with a conventional car, but an estimate depends on the assumptions behind it. If the costs and charging pattern used for the calculation do not match real life, the saving on screen will not tell much.
