A notan study looks at how light and dark shapes balance within an image, and Notan Live! brings that idea into a photo-and-video app. It is a more focused concept than ordinary image capture, with its interest in tonal structure rather than colour detail. By our assessment, that can make it useful for checking the broad light-dark balance of a composition. The central question remains whether that view helps with the particular image being made.
