Night Sky

Night Sky is one of the classic reference apps for astronomy, built for people who want a quick answer to what that bright point or cluster overhead might be. By our assessment, it does well at the basic job of mapping the sky and making star patterns, planets, and visible objects easier to name. The catch is that it still asks the user to do some work: the phone has to be pointed and read, and the sky does not always cooperate. In practice that makes it feel like a small field guide that happens to live on a screen. Compared with newer rivals, Night Sky has the familiar advantage of a mature sky-map idea rather than gimmicks. It is useful when the goal is recognition, not deep astronomy, and it stays in that lane clearly.
