Nextcloud is the self-hosted cloud suite for people and teams that want files, sharing, calendar, contacts, and collaborative editing under their own control. By our assessment, its best quality is breadth with ownership: file sync, web access, group folders, and the usual office-style extras all sit in one place, and the open-source model makes it attractive to organizations that care about where data lives. The cost is upkeep, because running it well means caring about updates, storage, and the server behind it. In daily use it feels more like a private workspace than a consumer app, with sync clients and browser access doing different jobs. Against Dropbox or Google Drive, Nextcloud trades polish and convenience for control and self-hosting. It suits people who already have the infrastructure or the patience for it.
