IGES & STEP Viewer is for opening mechanical CAD files when all someone needs is to inspect the model, not to edit it. By our assessment, that viewer role is its real strength: STEP and IGES are common exchange formats, so having a lightweight reader is often enough for a quick look at a part, assembly, or dimensioned shape. The trade-off is obvious, because a viewer is not a CAD suite and does not replace modelling tools, measurements, or proper annotations. In practice these apps live and die by zoom, rotation, layer handling, and whether the model stays readable on a small screen. IGES & STEP Viewer sits below full engineering software and above a plain file browser.
