Facebook

Facebook pulls together feed, groups, events, Marketplace, Messenger, and social graph in one place, so it is still the giant social network people use for keeping up with friends, local groups, and a lot of stray information. By our assessment, its real strength is reach: almost anything a person wants to follow socially can end up there, from family updates to buy-and-sell posts. The downside is that the app can feel crowded, noisy, and shaped by a recommendation system that never really leaves the room. In practice it asks for attention more than for effort, with endless scrolling, notifications, and a mix of personal and public content. Compared with newer social apps, Facebook is less neat and less fresh, but far broader in what it tries to hold. That breadth is also why some people keep it installed only for a few features and ignore the rest.
