Drambo

Drambo is for making beats and patterns on a phone or tablet, with a modular-style setup that lets electronic-music people build loops fast. By our assessment, its strength is the immediate hands-on feel: step sequencer, synths, sampler parts and effects are all pushed close together, so ideas can turn into sound without a lot of menu hunting. The trade-off is that this kind of app rewards some patience, because the patching and layering can get dense and the learning curve is steeper than in a plain recorder or a simple groovebox. In practice it feels like a compact electronic instrument rather than a sketchpad, and that makes it satisfying when you want to shape a track from scratch. Compared with bigger desktop DAWs, it is lighter and more focused, with less room for large arrangement work. Drambo sits in the music-app corner for people who like sound design and sequencing more than polished band recording.
