By our assessment, its strongest point is the connection to Amazon’s large Kindle catalogue and the way reading progress and notes travel with the account. That connection is also the trade-off: the library is tied closely to Amazon, unlike a more open collection of ebook files. Apple Books and Kobo offer alternatives with their own stores and ecosystems. A phone’s backlit screen still feels different from an e-ink Kindle for a long reading session.
