rETH2 looks like a staking-style crypto asset, and by our assessment that kind of token is mainly for people who want exposure to Ethereum-related value without treating it like cash. Its strength is that it sits in the current language of liquid staking and wrapped or receipt-like assets, which makes the idea easy to recognise for crypto users. The trade-off is obvious: this is still a niche crypto instrument, and the name with 2 in it does not make it simpler in practice. You end up needing to understand the underlying staking model, the chain-specific terms, and the market risk that comes with all of that. It belongs in the same broad space as other Ethereum-adjacent tokens, not among simple payment coins. The ceiling is understanding and trust in a very technical setup.
